Manufacturer's Description
The Cross-Country Train Adventure Game!
October 2, 1900 - 28 years to the day that noted London eccentric, Phileas Fogg accepted and won a £20,000 bet that he could travel "Around the World in 80 Days". Now at the dawn of the century it is time for a new impossible journey. Some old friends have gathered to celebrate Fogg's impetuous and lucrative gamble -- and to propose a new wager of their own. the stakes: $1 Million in a winner-take-all competition. The objective: to see which of them can travel by rail to the most cities in North America - in just 7 days.
The journey begins immediately...
Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure. Players collect cards of various types of train cars that enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn.
Additional points come to those who can fulfill their Destination Tickets by connecting two distant cities, and to the player who builds the longest continous railway. So climb aboard for some railroading fun and adventure.

Time Well Spent's thoughts
This was our best-selling board game for 12 straight months until April of 2005 when the Ticket to Ride: Europe beat out the original. It is a fantastic train game and one which regular gamers and light gamers will both enjoy. It is lighter than the train game Union Pacific and much more game than TransAmerica. It is an easy game to learn and then to teach others and plays in about 60 minutes time. It plays well with any number between 2 and 5 but best with 4 or 5 players. It still is my favorite game to play. (Dave)
In this revised edition, the scoring track now goes to 100 and the colors of the trains have symbols also associated with each color.
